Giampaolo Nuvolati is full professor of Sociology of environment and territory at the University of Milan Bicocca where he teaches Urban Sociology. In the same University, he was president of the Master Course in Sociology and, since October 2015, he is the director of the Department of Sociology and Social Research. He has coordinated several research on urban quality of life in Europe, working in particular at the University of Mannheim - MZES from 1994 to 1996 and successively participating in various international research projects concerning urban requalification. In 2003-2004, he was member of the Working Group on "Statistics for metropolitan areas: proposals for an integrated information system" for the Statistical Information Commission of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers. He was also member of the Board of Directors of ISQOLS (The International Society for the Quality-of-Life Studies) with the position of Vice-President for Academic Affair and currently he is the coordinator of the scientific committee of AIQUAV (Italian Association of Studies on the Quality of life). He is member of the Editorial Board of several national and international journals including: Social Indicators Research and Applied Research in Quality of Life. His main themes of interest concern the quality of urban life, housing, conflicts between metropolitan resident and non-resident populations, spatial and temporal mobility in the cities, methodological approaches in urban studies. On these topics he has written many books and articles for national and international publishers and journals.
