The aim of this special issue of IJSE (Italian Journal of Sociology of Education) and RASE (Revista de Sociología de la Educación) is to create a state-of-the-art sociology of education from a Southern European perspective. The time is ripe to reflect on whether a Southern analysis of educational problems should be suggested, both at the European level and in each country of the EU, considering the South within the North or the many South within the North.
