Narrative approaches to the social sciences have acquired increasing relevance as a way to deeply understand social phenomena.
By narrative one generally refers to a piece of discourse which deals with development and change. A narrative is a story in which something has to happen, since the actors (no matter if human beings or not, no matter if “invented” or “real”) who are involved in the narrative change their status from an initial condition A to a final condition B.
It is self-evident that, since narratives have to do with change and transformation, they are particularly relevant as an instrument for social investigation. The social is, in fact, unstable and constantly changing.
What we propose is an appraisal of narrative approaches as an instrument of analysis in social and educational sciences.
