In recent decades, the intersection between sport and disability has become a central topic within the social sciences, especially in the sociology of sport and disability studies. On one hand, sport may serve as a powerful tool for inclusion, subjective expression, and social participation. On the other, it often reinforces ableist stereotypes, exclusionary logics, and forms of symbolic and material segregation (DePauw & Gavron, 2005; Peers, 2009). The disabled sporting body also offers fertile ground for theoretical inquiry: from assistive technologies and prosthetics (Howe & Jones, 2006), to posthuman performance, intersectionality, power dynamics in sporting spaces, subjectivity, and activism through sport. This volume of Eracle invites critical, interdisciplinary and transnational reflections on sport and disability, welcoming both theoretical and empirical contributions from sociology, anthropology, disability studies, cultural studies, education and policy research.
