Trauma & Memory invites contributions for a special issue dedicated to the entanglement of artificial intelligence and memory, seen through interdisciplinary and cross-cultural lenses. The issue explores how AI-based systems, algorithms, and large language models are transforming our ways of remembering, archiving, forgetting, and narrating – both individually and collectively. We welcome papers that investigate how memory is being reshaped in the algorithmic age: from the role of LLMs in the transmission of traumatic memories to the design of digital memorials, from the algorithmic curation of personal histories to the creation of synthetic memory traces in interactive storytelling, social media and therapeutic contexts. We particularly encourage theoretical, empirical and speculative contributions that address the intersection of memory and artificial intelligence across disciplines such as sociology, digital humanities, cognitive science, literature, philosophy, psychology, game and media studies. Key themes may include (but are not limited to): • AI and the reconfiguration of autobiographical memory • Collective remembrance and algorithmic archives • Synthetic memories and memory prosthetics • Narrative identity in the age of generative AI • Memory, trauma and computational therapeutics • Forgetting, deletion, and the ethics of digital memory • Platform memory cultures and AI moderation • AI in art, fiction and speculative memory futures Abstract Submission Deadline: 25 April 2025 Full Paper Submission Deadline: 15 July 2025 The issue will be edited by Massimo Caon, Edmondo Grassi and Daniele Silvi. Deadline: 25 April 2025
