Associate professor at the Department of Cultures and Societies (University of Palermo), where she teaches Social Media Studies and Sociology of Education and Digital Media. President of MED (Italian Association for Media Education http://www.medmediaeducation.it/) and vice president of IAME (International Association for Media Education https://iame.education/). co-editor of the Journal of Media Education (https://oaj.fupress.net/index.php/med/index ). Member of the advisory board of the McLuhan Foundation (https://mcluhanfoundation.org/) and several scientific journals. Associate editor of International Encyclopedia of Media Literacy (Wiley). Her fields of research include media and cultural studies, sociology of education and digital media approached with qualitative/action-research methods. She is currently working on several research projects on digital technology and media education in schools, and particularly on a Horizon 2020 project on “educational commons” and digital media to reverse inequalities in disadvantaged urban areas and foster youth civic participation.
