Global Challenges to Feminism and Gender Research

Call for Papers

Conference Theme Feminists and gender researchers are increasingly working to provide new forms of reflexivity and perspectives capable of analyzing and understanding changing gender relations and inspiring innovative theories and practices in new and established feminisms. This Conference encourages participants to both approach contemporary social, economic, political and climate-related challenges from a gender-sensitive perspective and to reflect upon the future of feminism and gender research.

The Organizers look forward to seeing proposals for conference papers that reflect upon feminist responses to current world problems and contribute to the establishment of a dialogue between feminism and future studies.

Submissions are open for contributed papers focusing on the following and related fields:

  • Global and Local Feminisms;
  • Gender, Feminism, Ecology and Climate Change;
  • Gender and New Technologies: ICT, Robotics, AI;
  • Gender, Regeneration of Social Relationships, Sustainability;
  • Gender, Care and Migration;
  • Women and Interreligious Dialogue;
  • Gender, Employment and Work-life Balance;
  • Gender Health and Wellbeing;
  • Gender based Violence;
  • Men, Masculinities and Gender Equality;
  • Global Trends in LGBT+ Rights and Issues;
  • Gender Perspectives in Futures Studies;
  • Methodological Challenges for the Future of Feminist/Gender Research.

Paper proposals including a transnational and/or comparative perspective are particularly welcome.

Abstracts submission Please submit your abstract to the ESA RN33 Coordinators (Lise Widding Isaksen Lise.Isaksen @ uib.no and Elisabetta Ruspini elisabetta.ruspini @ unimib.it) by March 15, 2020. The abstract should be no more than 500 words and should outline the theme, methodology and the main findings of the study. It should also specifically outline how the author(s) intend(s) to address one or more of the issues raised in the call for papers. Please e-mail your abstract including: a title, 5 keywords, author(s) names and affiliations and e-mail address of each author. Please write “Abstract proposal for ESA RN33 2020 mid-term Conference” in the subject line of the e-mail. Decisions will be communicated by mid April 2020.

Conference Venue, Fees and Accommodation The Conference will be held at the Sapienza University of Rome. The Conference programme features keynote lectures, plenary discussions, paper sessions, a round table and an artistic performance.

No conference fees will be charged, but conference participants will need to pay their own travel and accommodation. Information on hotels and hostels close to the Conference venue will be communicated in due course.
